The Rest of Your Life

If you’re as old as I am you probably remember stores selling posters and other things that said, “Today’s the first day of the rest of your life.”  These 30 or 40 years later the saying is still true, but my goals have certainly changed. I’ve worked with older people and have become one of them myself. I don’t have to go out and burn my bra or try to get a job in a field traditionally populated only by men. Today I want to finish that long overdue advance medical directive that I keep setting aside. I’m up to the page that asks about funeral planning so I’m forced to think about what that means to me.

A welcome interruption came in the form of an email with an article asking what I’m going to do with the rest of my life, how I’m going to prepare for my eventual death. Most of us don’t really want to think about these things, but refusing to think about them doesn’t make them go away. Here’s a link to the article: http://bit.ly/15GSIAx

It’s time to start planning.
