Who’s At The Gym?

Take a look around next time you’re at the gym. Who do you see? I was there this morning and I saw a lot of gray hair. People weren’t necessarily your hard-bodied athletic type, but they were older men and women who can still get around without walkers and canes, can still live independently, and want to have good quality of life.

Some of them need a little help. If you’re choosing a gym for an older person, does it have a family changing room where an older couple could change together? I watched a man carefully escort his wife who walked excruciatingly slowly with a cane and I wondered where they were going. Then it hit me: she may have had a stroke and need help getting into her workout clothes. Her husband could go into the family changing room and help her so she could continue to work on her recovery.

If you have other tips for making exercise more accessible to seniors I’d ,ove to hear them.
